WHRV 89.5 FM launches new show Watching America

NORFOLK, Va. (February 27, 2019) –WHRV - 89.5 FM will premiere a unique production called Watching America on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at twelve noon. The weekly show, hosted by the British born Dr. Alan Campbell combines interviews, engaging audio and deep dive talks into our local and national culture through the eloquent and ever-curious lens of a ‘Brit’ who has spent over two decades figuring it all out.

“The only thing we won’t consider is boring,” says Campbell emphatically with a playful smile. “For example,” he continues, “our first guest is the brilliant and highly controversial Camille Paglia, but there again, we will also address topics such as First Ladies of the United States, sexual addiction, the exceptionally high rate of male suicide, and the pain experienced by retiring military personnel.”

Campbell, an experienced broadcaster and university professor, who has lectured on five continents and holds as many degrees, confesses to being somewhat of a “cerebral showman” as he puts it. “My mother was an English freelance journalist and my father was a Scottish magician, which I think accounts for much of who I am and what Watching America will be.”

The creator of Watching America states, “I bring to the air a slightly different perspective not having been born in the United States, however, I hasten to add, that I have known Hampton Roads for years and love it! All three of my sons went to the University of Virginia and I continue to teach Film and Communication courses at Old Dominion University and at Tidewater Community College, so Thomas Jefferson’s Commonwealth is a prime part of my consciousness and it’s people a prime part of my heart.”
