TO OFFER TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
SkillsOnlineSM will provide workforce training courses
NORFOLK: SkillsOnlineSM, Virginia's premier digital career certification and training solution, has partnered with Adult Learning Center, a service of the School Board of the City of Virginia Beach, to offer affordable online training and certification to their students.
SkillsOnlineSM is WHRO's professional development and workforce training portal, offering thousands of skills-based courses for life-long learning and workplace advancement. The Adult Learning Center will offer SkillsOnlineSM courses as a benefit to their adult students and their employees.
Continuing a tradition of forward-thinking and life-long learning, the Adult Learning Center's renovated library provides a modern, student-centered "Learning Commons" where technology, resources, and creativity combine in a "café" atmosphere that encourages collaboration and discussion. The library has over 12,000 titles, 2,000 eBooks, 85 journals and magazines; as well as laptops, iPads and a WIFI network available to those who wish to read, study, converse, and receive tutoring.
Programs offered at the center each semester include Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED® preparation and testing, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), career training, and community education.

About SkillsOnlineSM: SkillsOnlineSM is a service of WHRO, who is owned by a consortium of Virginia schools. We are a 50-year-old, not-for-profit that is dedicated to improving the economy and quality of life in our communities. For more than a decade we have been in the business of creating teacher-led online courses for our schools, for teacher professional development, and for use in Virtual Virginia's online high school which offers AP and world language courses and now for adults.
About the Adult Learning Center: Created during the mid 1960's, the Adult Learning Center continues to be a valuable community resource, as the largest adult education program in Hampton Roads and one of the largest in the state of Virginia.
The Adult Learning Center offers numerous career and workforce training programs, community education, and ABE/GED® and ESOL classes. Classes are also held at satellite sites: the Advanced Technology Center, Larkspur Middle School, the Renaissance Academy and the Technical and Career Education Center to offer convenient instruction and training to the residents of Hampton Roads. Off-site classes are also offered throughout the community.
