WAYLA CHAMBO NAMED ASSISTANT PROGRAM DIRECTOR OF WHRO FM

NORFOLK, Va. (October 15,  2019) – WHRO Public Media is pleased to announce Dr. Wayla Chambo as Assistant Program Director of WHRO 90.3FM, it’s 24-hour classical station.

Wayla joined WHRO in 2014 as a weekend announcer, took over as afternoon host in 2016, and added Music Coordinator duties in 2017.  Wayla earned the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of North Texas, and holds previous music degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and California Institute of the Arts.

“Wayla’s can-do-attitude and unifying spirit have benefitted our growth, both internally and externally in the community,” said Director of Radio Program & Audience Strategy Chuck Doud.  

Wayla is also a professional flutist and music educator. You can find her performing locally with ensembles such as the Norfolk Chamber Consort, Duo Thalassa with guitarist Todd Holcomb, and as a substitute flutist with the Virginia Symphony. Wayla's teaching experience includes Thomas Nelson Community College, Eastern Mennonite University, and the University of North Texas, as well teaching students of all ages and levels in a private flute studio setting.

Wayla will also continue her daily live show on 90.3 WHRO FM Monday through Friday from 4 – 7 pm.
