Welcome to the new quarterly Dimensions!

I am very excited about this new format. In each issue, you can expect to see the impact WHRO Public Media has on the community. You will learn about awards we have received, events we’ve held, and recent station projects. We hope you enjoy this first issue!

This summer has been a busy one. Our biggest event during the season was PrideFest at Town Point Park in Norfolk. For years WHRO Public Media has been a sponsor of this event, and it is one I really enjoy. It was great to see so many of you who stopped by our booth to say hello and picked up some public media swag!

I was also excited that the station was able to partner with the Hampton Roads Workforce Council for an event held at Old Dominion University’s Virginia Modeling, Analysis, and Simulation Center in Suffolk. The Women in Skilled Careers Summit brought together women from different areas of the community for conversations focused on creating awareness of the challenges that women face while enrolling in trade programs and working in skilled careers. I’m so proud of the work we are doing to raise awareness of the opportunities that exist within skilled careers. To read more about the work we’ve done, visit whro.org/americangraduate

WHRO also won several prestigious awards recently including 20 Telly Awards, four Emmy Awards and four awards from the Virginia Association of Broadcasters. We are committed to delivering outstanding content that enriches and educates our community, and we are honored to receive these awards. Congratulations to all the staff members involved in each project! Find the full list of awards at whro.org/awards

Our local journalism efforts have also been consistent over the last few months. WHRO believes that the well-being of a community is influenced by the quality and accessibility of local journalism. Throughout the spring and summer of this year, the station has been presenting a series of free News Pubs across the region. You can read more about these fun, informative events later in this issue. If you haven’t attended one yet, I encourage you to check it out. We have one event remaining on the calendar.

As always, I thank you for your continued support and for being a member of WHRO!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
